Emerson East Neighborhood Association

Emerson East

The Emerson East neighborhood is located on the East Isthmus of Madison and bounded by Commercial Ave. on the north, North St. and East Washington Ave. on the east, Yahara River on the south, and East Johnson St. and the Wisconsin & Southern Railroad Yard on the west The neighborhood grew after Madison's Central Marsh was drained in the 1920's and land was made available to area factory workers, including workers from Oscar Mayer and the French Battery Company. Today, the neighborhood houses about 2100 people in approximately 1000 single family and apartment properties.

The neighborhood association has been active in working with the city and other organizations to renovate Demetral Field and improve the quaility of life by increasing efforts to improve North St. through citizen and police patrols.
