Lake View Hill
The Lake View Hill neighborhood is bounded by Wheeler Rd. on the north, N. Sherman Ave. on the east, Northport Dr. on the south, and School Rd. on the west. The area surrounds Lake View Hill and the nearby forrest, which provide paths, a great view of the captial and a cementery that dates back to the 1850's.
The neighborhood association was founded in the mid-1980's in response to concern over commercial development in the area. The association was successful in preventing a portion of the Hill from being sold, and a perservation association was established to maintain and preserve the Hill. This preservation association, Friends of Lake View Woods, sponsors the annual woods cleanup, bird count, and butterfly count as well as the ongoing restoration of the woods.
