Northside Planning Council

The Northside Planning Council was organized in 1993 as an independent nonprofit coalition of community organizations, now consisting of neighborhood associations, the business association, the senior coalition, churches, schools, and community centers. The council began as a development surrounding the Oscar Mayer meatpacking plant, which brought with it a high concentration of affordable housing and minorities. The neighborhood began to quickly show the strain of rapid urban growth and changing demographics when rates of crime, violence, and drug traffic soared in the 1980's and 1990's. Today, the council includes Brentwood, Cherokee Garden Condo, Cherokee Park, East Bluff, Kennedy Heights, Lerdahl Park, Lakeview Hill, Mendota Hills, North Glen Apartments, North Lake Mendota, Northport Apartments,  Northside Business Association, Sheridan Triangle, Sherman Neighborhood, Vera Court, Woodland Park Apartment
