Vera Court Neighborhood Association

The Vera Court Neighborhood Center serves a small area between Mendota Elementary on the north, School Rd. on the east, Troy Dr. on the south, and Chicago and Northwestern Railroad on the west. The center was formed in 1990 in a small apartment at the urging of area residents in an effort to revitalize the area. Residents felt a need for a central place where programs for both children and adults could be organized and information regarding education, employment, recreation and housing could be shared. Youth programs include an after school program, a reading and literacy program, a leadership program, a girls' empowerment program, and opportunities for school age boys to meet positive male role models. The center also offers a computer lab and classes for all age groups, and groups aimed at the area's Latino residents. The center hosts numerous special events such as Mother's and Father's Day events, a school supply giveaway, holiday parties and more.
